Moovit provides iOS, Android and web apps plus a Smart Transit Suite that aggregates municipal and transit-operator data to deliver routing, analytics and mobility-management services; its apps are used by 120 million people across 2,000 cities in 80 countries. The Smart Transit Suite is based on a data-in/data-out model, enabling municipalities, transit operators and third parties to ingest Moovit’s data to manage networks and improve urban mobility. Moovit plans to use the new funding to expand its technology and business development and expects to surpass 1 billion users by 2021. As part of the raise it will collaborate with Mobileye to incorporate Moovit’s data into Mobileye’s navigation system. Professor Amnon Shashua, Senior VP of Intel and CEO/CTO of Mobileye, is joining Moovit’s board as an observer under the strategic investment. To date Moovit has raised around $131 million; it disclosed a $450 million valuation in 2015 but is not revealing its current valuation. Moovit is a transit app that combines information from public transport operators and authorities with live information from its user community to give travelers a real-time picture and suggest the fastest and most comfortable routes. Users can send active reports about their travel experience, such as bus congestion levels and cleanliness. The platform is available in over 700 cities and has over 30 million users. Founded in 2012 in Israel by Nir Erez, Roy Bick, and Yaron Evron, the company is expanding into markets that lack readily available public transit data. Moovit is launching in Bangalore, expects to launch three more cities in India before year-end, and is publicly launching four cities in China: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing. It intends to use the new funding to advance growth in markets like India and China. The company has raised over $81M to date. Moovit offers a free public-transport app that combines routing options and live journey data by tracking users' positions. The app aggregates multiple transit modes and integrates with taxi services—GetTaxi in Israel and Lyft in the U.S.—to help users travel from A to B. Moovit reports 15 million public-transport users across cities including Sao Paulo, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Milan, New York and LA. The company says it plans to monetize once it reaches hundreds of millions of users via added services, taxi connections, value‑add advertising and selling bus and train tickets. Moovit is available on iTunes, Google Play, the Windows Phone Marketplace and via moovitapp.com. It positions itself against competitors such as Citymapper and seeks to replicate Waze-style live-data advantages while saying an outright sale is not the company's goal. Moovit offers Android and iOS apps that combine crowdsourced user reports and public transit timetables to show real-time arrivals and fastest routes across buses, subways, trains and ferries. The product layers predictive analytics and pattern recognition on top of crowdsourced data to surface delays, crowded stops, and recurring issues. Users can send alerts about late vehicles or crowded stops and plug origin/destination points to get route suggestions. The company reports roughly 3 million users in a little over a year, with hundreds of thousands using the app daily, more than one billion handled requests, and over 10 million user-generated reports created each day. Moovit operates in 100 cities and plans to expand further into Asia while investing in backend technology and data analytics. The company is not currently generating revenue and its investors do not expect near-term monetization.
