Airspan is advancing Open RAN architecture by developing an extensible radio unit (O-RU) platform intended to integrate advanced features and improve power efficiency and performance. The company says the effort will accelerate its next-generation Open RAN radios and increase its technology investment. Airspan serves markets including Macro Open RUs, in‑building coverage, Critical Infrastructure, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), and Air‑to‑Ground (ATG) / High‑Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS). The firm emphasizes interoperability, flexibility, and scalability to enable mobile network operators of all sizes to build next‑generation networks. Airspan has shipped over one million cells to 1,000 customers across more than 100 countries. The company received a significant grant from a U.S. government program to fund these development efforts. Airspan develops software and hardware for 5G networks, with a focus on end-to-end Open RAN, private networks, fixed wireless access, air-to-ground and neutral host solutions. The company highlights its global scale, with over one million cells shipped to 1,000 customers in more than 100 countries. Airspan says its R&D investments position it to support 5G indoor and outdoor deployments and industrial enterprise use cases. The recent restructuring and new equity ownership are intended to give the company greater financial flexibility to execute its strategic plan. Airspan completed a transition that eliminated its previous funded debt and strengthened its balance sheet. The company intends to use the improved capital structure to pursue its stated goal of helping operators deploy next-generation networks. Airspan Networks is described as a leading provider of 4G LTE RAN solutions. On June 10, 2014 the company issued 5,000 shares of Series E Preferred Stock for $5.0 million in cash and issued a warrant to unaffiliated institutional investors. The company adopted an amended and restated certificate of incorporation effective June 10, 2014 that increased authorized common stock from 2.0 million to 5.0 million shares and included other amendments. Oak Investment Partners XI, in its capacity as sole holder of Airspan’s outstanding Series B, Series C and Series D Preferred Stock, approved the exchange transaction and its consent was the only stockholder approval required. Following the Series E transaction Oak beneficially owned approximately 80.3% of the voting power assuming conversion of all outstanding preferred and no exercise of options. Airspan is not subject to the informational reporting requirements of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and does not file reports; transaction documents and notices will be made available on the company website and by request at its Boca Raton address.
