Baze provides an at-home blood testing kit—a pear-shaped, MIT-manufactured device—that collects a small blood sample for analysis at a Baze-contracted lab and reports vitamin scores back to users. The company positions its service to identify nutrient deficiencies (e.g., Vitamin D) and then recommend supplements via a monthly subscription; the kit costs $100 and includes the first month of supplements free. Baze says the device operates in accordance with FDA regulations and is working to shorten its roughly 12-day turnaround for results. CEO and founder Philipp Schulte says the company has seen 40% month-over-month new subscriber growth. Baze has entered a partnership with supplement company Nature’s Way, which is helping the startup expand marketing efforts in the U.S. The product targets consumers who prefer home testing over clinic or lab visits to monitor nutritional status.
