The product emphasizes a pared-down experience—no check-ins or heavy social networking—targeting mainly women in their late 20s and up who prefer private, intent-driven bookmarking. Matchbook surfaces intent-based deals by alerting users when bookmarked venues run promotions on sites like Groupon, LivingSocial, and Gilt City, and allows users to buy coupons through the app. The company plans to expand to Android and other platforms beyond its current App Store availability. Matchbook monetizes its deals feature via affiliate referrals, keeping an average cut of about 10 percent of daily-deal purchases. The startup is New York City–based and intends to use new funding to fuel growth, ramp up hiring, and develop apps for additional mobile platforms.
