Cubic Motion develops computer vision and real-time animation technology for the digital entertainment sector. Its tools are used to produce higher-quality animation in video games, virtual reality and film production. Past clients have included EA, Activision and Sony. The company said it will deploy an expanding range of licensed software solutions to bring real-time vision and animation capabilities directly to clients and partners. The new funding will be used to build out its Manchester-based animation team and grow its portfolio of content. Financially, the firm has received a reported £20 million investment from NorthEdge. Cubic Motion is a Daresbury Science & Innovation Campus (UK)-based company that specialises in converting data streams, such as video footage, into 3D facial animation for the video game, TV and film markets. The company provides animation services focused on translating detailed facial performance into digital characters. It received a £100,000 Grant for Research and Development to pursue a new technology approach aimed at enabling real-time transfer of extremely detailed facial movements from video to 3D characters at production quality. The planned solution is intended to dramatically improve workflow and efficiency in facial animation and enable new products. The work is framed as contributing significantly to the regional supply chain for graphics techniques.
