    reinnervate Limited develops biotechnologies aimed at facilitating research into cell growth and function in vitro. Its technologies are focused on the management of growth and function of cultured cells and have immediate applications for research and development in the academic, healthcare, biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. The company was established in July 2002 as a spin-out from research conducted at Durham University. It is based in a facility within the NETPark Incubator in Durham, UK. In May 2010 reinnervate raised £1.6m in a new funding round led by North Star Equity Investors. The funding was reported by FinSMEs on 31 May 2010.

  • Eutechnyx

    Eutechnyx is a Gateshead, UK-based driving games development company. It received £650,000 from the Finance for Business North East Fund (FBNEF) via the North East Accelerator Fund managed by NorthStar Equity Investors. The capital infusion will enable the company to continue to innovate, create a new generation of games and hire new professionals. Eutechnyx currently employs over 80 full-time programmers, artists, animators and games designers at its offices in England, and a further 28 staff in its Hong Kong office. The investment was made from the £125m Finance for Business North East Fund programme.

    Applied Superconductor Ltd. develops and produces high-efficiency devices for utility and industrial electrical networks using superconductor technologies, including a Superconducting Fault Current Limiter designed to protect networks from short-circuits. The company is led by CEO Herbert Piereder and is based in Blyth, Northumberland, UK. It recently signed a £4m contract with Rolls Royce and the Energy Technologies Institute to reduce downtime from power cuts and earlier won a major contract with CE Electric UK. Shareholders include founders Herbert Piereder and David Klaus and regional venture firms NEL Fund Managers and NorthStar Equity Investors. The company raised funds to expand market presence and operations. Applied Superconductor Ltd is a Blyth, UK-based specialist developer and producer of high-efficiency devices for utility and industry electrical networks employing superconductor technologies. Its products apply superconductors to improve efficiency in utility and industrial electrical networks. Last December the company completed a £650K financing round. The funds were provided by NorthStar Equity Investors, NEL Fund Managers, members of the management team and industry experts. The new funds are being used to reinforce the company's business case by attracting new projects and setting up additional co-operations. Applied Superconductor intends to initiate a further financing round scheduled to be closed by the middle of 2010.
