  Onboard Dynamics develops compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling systems that integrate natural gas compression into vehicle engines and offers a standalone mobile self-powered compressor. The company is pursuing two solutions: a fully integrated onboard engine-compressor system and a standalone, mobile, self-powered compressor. Its technology uses the automotive engine’s power to compress natural gas during refueling, allowing refueling from low-pressure natural gas supply lines and opening existing distribution sites to CNG vehicles. The company cites a market gap — roughly 1,600 public CNG stations nationwide versus 72 million customer natural gas sites — as a key opportunity. CEO Rita Hansen said a $3 million funding commitment will help put the company on track to become financially sustainable, and the firm plans to complete development, testing and market introduction of its first products over the next 18 months. Onboard Dynamics was founded in 2013 and is based in Bend, Oregon. It has previously received funding support from ARPA-E, ONAMI, Oregon BEST, Oregon State University, and the Portland Seed Fund.
