  Vivimed Labs operates an API business housed in its overseas subsidiary Vivimed Labs (Mascarene). The company announced an additional $7.5 million investment from healthcare investor OrbiMed Asia into that subsidiary. OrbiMed Asia had earlier invested $42.5 million in September 2017. Managing director Santosh Varalwar said the follow-on investment reiterates the investor's confidence and that the funds will fuel overall growth opportunities. The capital is being directed into the overseas holding entity for the API operations. Shares of Vivimed Labs were reported trading at Rs 106.45 on the BSE, up 2.41% from the previous close. Vivimed Labs is a Hyderabad-based manufacturer and exporter of specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical products. Its operations supply specialty chemicals to large global customers and include pharmaceutical manufacturing and marketing activities. The company is pursuing expansion of specialty-chemicals capacity at its existing Bidar site and a greenfield project at Pydibhimavaram near Vizag, and is building a USFDA-compliant pharmaceuticals facility at Choutuppal. Vivimed is executing an inorganic growth strategy, recently acquiring 60% of Octtantis Nobel Labs Pvt Ltd and reportedly in talks to buy Uquifa SA of Spain for $55 million. Management is positioning the business to leverage back-ended manufacturing in India and margin arbitrage in overseas markets. The company is funding these expansion and acquisition plans through the recent equity and preference infusion.
