Overview
Founded in 1989, Orbis is a privately-held global investment firm managing long-only and absolute return strategies. Since the firm's inception, our purpose has been straightforward: to empower our clients by enhancing their saving and wealth. We believe the best way we can do this is by applying our fundamental, long-term and contrarian investment philosophy, and we have structured our firm in a way that requires us to deliver meaningful value-for-money to our clients. Orbis manages approximately US$30 billion of assets that have been entrusted to us by institutions, families and individuals. It employs approximately 400 people in eight countries, who represent more than 35 nationalities, speak more than 15 languages and come from a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds. The firm’s roots lie in South Africa, where our founder, Allan Gray, established Allan Gray Proprietary Limited in 1973 with the same investment philosophy.

Nebius builds and operates data centres packed with GPUs and offers access plus specialised software to AI and enterprise customers. It positions itself as a neocloud provider supplying AI compute at scale and has secured multi-billion-dollar contracts with Meta and Microsoft. In May it acquired Eigen for about $643m in cash and stock to improve performance of open-source AI models. To finance further expansion, Nebius is issuing $4.5bn of convertible notes, earmarked for data-centre build-out, AI cloud investment and GPU purchases. The deal structure comprises two tranches due in 2030 and 2034, reflecting significant near- and medium-term capital needs.
