  • MicaSense

    Led · Equity · Feb 2016

MicaSense develops hardware and software that allow farmers to collect and analyze multispectral imagery of their fields via drones. Its flagship RedEdge and newly launched Sequoia cameras capture plant reflectance data, which is processed through the company’s cloud-based ATLAS analytics platform to monitor crop health and improve yields. The Sequoia sensor is lighter, smaller, and lower-priced, broadening compatibility with the growing base of small fixed-wing and multirotor drones. Headquartered in Seattle after relocating from California, the startup has grown to 14 employees and plans to double headcount in 2016. Recent funding will expand its software development team and enhance the ATLAS platform while the company remains platform-agnostic, partnering with multiple UAV manufacturers. MicaSense has strengthened ties with major drone maker Parrot, positioning itself to potentially join Parrot’s family of companies in the coming years.
