Petri is a new approach for funding formation-stage startups at the intersection of biology and engineering. Petri is co-founded by entrepreneurs who have built iconic companies as well as academics who are driving foundational science in bioengineering; together we have deep experience developing ideas into successful companies across human health and sustainability. We invest pre-seed and seed capital and work one-on-one with founders for 12+ months. We help founders build world-class teams, develop intellectual property, find customers, and raise a subsequent round of financing.

New Equilibrium provides a platform that learns biophysics with AI to reveal experimentally-invisible conformations of shapeshifting proteins. Its technology combines AI and biophysics to uncover opportunities for structure-based design against intrinsically disordered proteins, a class that includes many high-priority targets in cancer, neurodegeneration, and other indications. The company is led by Founder and CEO Dr. Virginia Burger; Dr. Peter Tompa chairs the Scientific Advisory Board. New Equilibrium intends to use recent funding to scale up its R&D facility, expand the team, accelerate its IDP-targeting programs, and explore strategic partnerships. The platform and programs are positioned to enable rational design against targets that have historically been elusive to conventional structure-based approaches.
