Overview
Phatisa is a private equity and venture capital arm of The Phatisa Group specializing investments in management buy-outs and buy-ins, expansions, acquisitions, refinancings, and start-up new ventures in small and medium sized enterprises (SME). It also seeks to invest in real estate projects with a focus on affordable and middle income residential developments and mixed use developments comprising of housing and aligned commercial developments and in urban areas. The firm does not invest in bio-fuels, timber, alcoholic beverages, seed capital, short-term bridging, or debt finance and it does not provide grants or soft loans.

Lona Group operates as a diversified, vertically-integrated food business with activities across farming, manufacturing and food processing. The company is undergoing expansion to develop into a broader vertically-integrated food business and to create enhanced economic opportunities in low-income areas. The investment disclosed supports approximately 500 low-income workers involved in the group’s operations. British International Investment committed $6.69M in equity to the company in January 2022, alongside a consortium of investors. An Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) was agreed, including updates to the group ESG framework, establishment of an ESG committee and hiring a dedicated internal ESG resource. The investment is domiciled in Mauritius and is classified with a Medium-High environmental and social risk; it is also fully qualified under the 2X Gender Finance criteria.
