Kidaptive’s core product is an Adaptive Learning Platform: a cloud-based assessment and reporting system that creates actionable learner profiles, adapts in real time to performance, and can incorporate offline activities. The company began with curriculum-focused iPad games and has repositioned itself as a “big data for learning” provider that supplies adaptivity and learner-profile management to partners. Kidaptive is working with PBS KIDS as part of a $99 million, five-year federal grant to create a personalized learning ecosystem and is live with one integration for The Ruff Ruffman Show. The company has commercial partnerships including a deal to power an English-language learning system for Korean education company Woongjin Compass and access to Woongjin’s parent publisher with half a million paying subscribers. Kidaptive has projects in India and China (some under NDA), plans a China launch at the end of the summer with a large retailer, and expects to manage 10 million active learner profiles within four years. Management says it expects to achieve profitability within the next 12 months and will expand its ~50-person team with hires in the U.S., Korea, China, and India while further developing product features like test-score prediction. Kidaptive develops children's educational iPad apps, led by flagship title Leo’s Pad, which pairs high‑production animation with interactive puzzles and games to teach reading, math, cognitive, emotional and social skills. The team combines children's‑television talent and education specialists, including co‑founder Dylan Arena, Ph.D., and CEO/co‑founder P.J. Gunsagar (also co‑founder of Prana Studios). Its apps have been downloaded more than half a million times (50% outside the U.S.) and see about 200,000 monthly active users; 90% of the audience returns as new appisodes are released. Kidaptive launched a parent portal, Parent’s Pad, used by roughly half of parents (returning about twice per week), and plans an updated, lighter version based on feedback. Product plans include more appisodes, Android development, and a “next generation” product slated for summer 2014, plus a potential physical component for subscriptions late next year. Longer term, the company intends to build an assessment platform to aggregate learner data for parents, teachers and third‑party app makers. Kidaptive builds curriculum-driven "edu-tainment" iPad apps for preschoolers; its flagship product Leo’s Pad pairs high-quality animation and mini-games with an assessment framework that measures reading, math, cognitive, social and emotional skills. It launched Parent’s Pad, a parents-only in-app dashboard that shows a child’s progress across learning dimensions and recommends tips and activities to help areas of struggle. Leo’s Pad has been downloaded by over 350,000 parents and currently exposes three measurable "appisodes." The company plans to expand to 25 appisodes total, with at least 10 more planned this year and completion of the full curriculum by 2014. Longer-term plans include offering offline companion activities as an additional revenue stream, sharing child profiles with teachers, and adapting the assessment framework to other apps and older kids. Kidaptive is seed funded by a group of investors and has an animation partnership that supports its product development.
