FlatFrog develops in-glass multi-touch technology for large and flat displays, emphasizing market-leading touch and pen performance, optical clarity, and pressure detection. Launched in 2006 and based in Lund, the company focuses on the educational sector as its existing market. Its longer-term goal is to replace whiteboards, projectors, and televisions in classrooms, boardrooms, and meeting rooms with its touch-sensitive technology. FlatFrog has raised €6.1 million in a round led by Finvus Invest and Sunstone Capital. The company intends to use the investment to finance continued research and development of its multi-touch technology. The financing brings the company's valuation to €21 million. FlatFrog Laboratories develops FlatFrog Touch, a patented in-glass touch technology designed for mass production and integration into consumer products such as notebooks, tablets, all-in-one PCs and monitors (10"–30"). The technology is certified for Windows 8.1, offers precise touch performance, supports 40 simultaneous touches and includes unique pressure detection. Led by CEO Dhwani Vyas, the company is focused on commercializing its technology for PC applications. FlatFrog intends to use new funding to accelerate commercialization efforts and expand its presence in Asia in 1H 2014. The company closed a $10M funding round to support these plans. Backers on the round were existing investors Invus, Sunstone Capital and Intel Capital. FlatFrog Laboratories, founded in 2007 by Ola Wassvik and Christer Fåhraeus, develops multi-touch screen technologies from its base in Lund, Sweden. The company’s Planar Scatter Detection technology uses algorithms to track light travelling inside a screen’s cover glass to detect up to hundreds of simultaneous touches and drags. FlatFrog has begun shipping its first product based on the technology, the 32" FlatFrog Multitouch 3200, a high-performance 32" multi-touch screen. The company closed a €20m funding round to support its growth. It intends to use the funds to expand its team during 2012 and to accelerate development and commercialization of its multi-touch technologies. Target markets include consumer electronics products within the personal computing ecosystem. FlatFrog develops in-glass, optics-based multi-touch displays that it says are suitable for large-scale screens (40" and above). Its planar scatter detection solution can handle multiple simultaneous touches (up to 24) and produces a complete unit about 10cm thick. The company positions its products as cheaper alternatives to Microsoft Surface by relying on more traditional display technology. FlatFrog is accelerating development of high-performance optics-based multi-touch kits and subsystems for smaller form-factor, high-volume consumer electronics such as all-in-one PCs, notebooks and tablet/slate devices. The company plans to target education, gaming, hospitality and digital signage markets initially. It recently raised funding to support R&D and commercialization efforts.
