Network Next is a Santa Monica–based software developer that emerged from stealth on Jan. 23 and builds a high-speed networking layer that runs in the background to find the fastest paths across ISPs and reduce game latency. Game developers integrate Network Next’s software into new or existing titles; the company says this prioritization of game traffic can improve multiplayer performance and esports operations. Glenn Fiedler is CEO, and San Diego-based Psyonix signed on as Network Next’s first client. The company announced a $3.1 million seed round that brings total funding to $4.4 million. Network Next plans to use the investment to grow its team and continue development of its technology to deliver on its vision. The product positioning targets developers and operators of multiplayer and esports games looking to lower latency and improve network performance.
