  Echo is a U.K. startup that offers an iOS and Android app to manage repeat NHS prescriptions, send prescription requests to GPs, nominate pharmacy partners and deliver medication by 2nd class post. The app uses camera input and NLP to capture medication details, alerts users when to take medicine and when supplies are low, and integrates with the NHS Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). Echo has about 50,000 users and has demonstrated improved adherence for people on long‑term medication. Its primary revenue model is e‑commerce, taking a cut from partner pharmacies per order, with potential additional revenue from selling data to the pharmacy industry to help manage supply chains. The product emphasis is on reducing medication waste, improving patient outcomes and lowering admin costs for GP surgeries and the NHS. Founders Sai Lakshmi and Stephen Bourke previously worked at Apple (biz dev) and Lloyds Pharmacy’s online doctor service, respectively. Echo provides an app that lets patients manage long-term medications by removing repeat prescriptions and routing prescription requests to their existing NHS GP for approval. Once approved, prescriptions are sent to Echo’s partner pharmacies for dispensing and dispatched by Royal Mail. The service works with existing prescription workflows and is compatible with all NHS GP surgeries. The app uses natural language processing to convert GP directions into reminders that prompt users when to take medication and when they are about to run out. Echo was co-founded by Dr Sai Lakshmi (CEO) and Stephen Bourke (CXO). The company raised £1.8m in funding.
