Modus launched in 2018 as a Seattle-based startup focused on title and escrow services and has developed software to help agents and home buyers navigate the home-closing process. The team describes a long-term vision of powering all real estate transactions and becoming an operating system for real estate—analogous to Stripe for payments. The company started with an emphasis on escrow and aims to expand its product across transactions over time. Since its Series A, Modus has grown its headcount to about 50 employees across product, engineering and operations. The startup plans to expand its software to 15–20 states over the next two years and intends to raise a Series B in the second or third quarter of next year.
