Trigger enables web developers to build apps once in HTML5, CSS or JavaScript and use its Forge framework to translate those apps to Android, iOS and desktop browsers. Its JavaScript API wraps code in a native wrapper to provide access to phone-only features like Camera and Notifications and to allow submission to native app stores. The product is aimed at web developers with little or no mobile experience, offering a faster, simpler development process. Trigger evolved from a web bookmarking tool called WebMynd and the team of 14 is split between San Francisco and London. The company monetizes via a freemium model with “with attribution” and white-label products and already has hundreds of developers using it in thousands of builds. It reports paying customers and “significant” revenue and plans to use its new funding for expansion.
