Overview

The City of Rotterdam actively enhances the regional cleantech ecosystem. They believe that we can stimulate economic growth by fastening the energy transition and the transition towards a circular economy. Instead of losing employment in their oil- and petrochemical clusters, they have to prepare our region for the challenges that they face and the transitions that they have to go through. Therefore, their mission is to promote and stimulate the implementation of clean technologies. One instrument to enhance the cleantech ecosystem is that we are a partner in the INTERREG Scale-UP program. The aim of this program is to connect the innovation needs of corporates with the latest innovations of local, regional and international start-ups and SME’s. The Meet-the-Buyer event is one of the important cornerstones of this program.

    Zepp.solutions develops polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) hydrogen fuel cell systems that include components, systems and software controls to convert hydrogen into electricity. Its systems are tailored for medium- to heavy-duty use cases such as trucks, machinery and ships and have been implemented in projects including the Ab Initio inland barge and several Liebherr excavators. Upcoming projects cited include two hydrogen-electric 44-ton on-road trucks and a mobile power genset for Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. The company was founded in 2017 as a spinoff from TU Delft’s hydrogen racing team Forze and until 2024 had been entirely bootstrapped. In 2023 Zepp received a €2M grant from the European Just Transition Fund to set up a new assembly plant with capacity for up to 1,000 units annually and an expected ~100 new jobs. Partners named in the article include TotalEnergies, KLM, Dynell and Terberg Benschop.
