ImpriMed develops AI-powered live-cell drug sensitivity and predictive models to identify effective anticancer medicines for individual canine and feline blood cancers. Its core service measures live tumor-cell responses in a California lab and combines those measurements with biological data to produce a treatment report delivered to veterinarians within seven days. Veterinary services are fully commercialized (five canine and three feline services), generate revenue, and have been used by more than 350 U.S. veterinarians; the company says it has helped over 5,000 dogs with lymphoma and collected outcome follow-up on over half of those cases. ImpriMed has run validation work with data from 2,000 human blood-cancer patients and the Mayo Clinic Platform’s 3 million‑patient database. The company plans to expand its veterinary-to-human precision oncology efforts, with an AI multiple myeloma product targeting commercialization in 2025 and plans to commercialize services for human AML and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma before the end of 2024. It also offers a live-cell CRO service to help drug developers measure compound efficacy on patient cells. The startup plans to use new funding to expand its drug-response prediction technology into human oncology, grow its team (about 40 staff) and broaden business-development pipelines. ImpriMed is a Palo Alto-based veterinary precision medicine company that uses artificial intelligence to predict which anti-cancer drugs are most likely to be effective for a particular dog’s lymphoma or leukemia. It generates live data from chemosensitivity and immunophenotyping assays on patients’ fresh cancer cells to produce quantified drug response predictions for veterinary oncologists. Led by CEO and co‑founder Dr. Sungwon Lim, the company enables clinicians to make chemotherapy decisions with greater confidence prior to drug administration. To date ImpriMed has provided more than 2,000 services to community-treated canine patients. The company plans to use the new funding to develop additional prediction models for its current canine blood-cancer targets, scale up its customer network and expand pipelines to other types of cancers in dogs and cats. Financially, ImpriMed closed an $8m Pre-Series A round comprising $7.7m from venture capital investors and the remainder as a government grant. ImpriMed uses precision medicine techniques to test hundreds of drug responses on fresh biopsy samples from canine cancer patients, observing how live cancer cells react before treatment. The platform screens for the most effective chemotherapy options and excludes non-effective ones, then provides those results to veterinary oncologists. The company is currently focused on treating lymphoma in dogs. ImpriMed plans to roll out a clinical trial that will be performed primarily at SAGE Veterinary Centers in the Bay Area. For a limited time it is offering its service free of charge while completing the clinical trial and aims to help more than 500 dogs by 2020. The company was founded in 2017 and maintains an additional presence in Seoul, South Korea.
