  • InGeneron

    Led · Series D · Jun 2019

InGeneron develops autologous point-of-care cell therapies that isolate adipose-derived regenerative cells (ADRCs) from a patient’s own fat and deliver them locally in a same-day, minimally invasive outpatient procedure using a proprietary cell-processing system. The company’s primary focus is treating pain and functional impairments associated with musculoskeletal conditions. Its lead program is a pivotal, double-blinded, multi-center study in partial-thickness rotator cuff tears; the company announced enrollment of the first patients last month. InGeneron has also launched feasibility trials in chronic back pain and wrist osteoarthritis and reported topline feasibility data in December 2018 showing the therapy was safe and well-tolerated. Financially, InGeneron has extended its Series D financing by up to $23 million, bringing total committed funding under the extension to up to $43 million, with additional investment coming from clinical partner Sanford Health. The new funds are structured in multiple tranches tied to development milestones and will support advancement of the rotator cuff pivotal trial and other clinical programs. InGeneron develops regenerative cell therapy applications that enable physicians to use a patient’s own adipose-derived regenerative cells for immediate therapeutic application at the point of care. Its proprietary technology isolates stromal vascular fraction — a mixture of cells and nutrients that contain adipose-derived stem cells — for use in clinical treatments. The company is focused initially on orthopedic and wound-healing indications, including rotator cuff tears and venous ulcers, and aims for U.S. regulatory approval. InGeneron has an active collaboration with Sanford Health to conduct clinical trials across the Sanford network and to explore other applications of adipose-derived stem cells. Sanford began enrolling participants in an FDA-approved trial of stromal vascular fraction for partial-thickness rotator cuff tears earlier this year, and InGeneron enrolled its first patients in January 2017. The company recently received a strategic investment that management says will accelerate clinical development and broaden access to regenerative cell therapies.
