Breaking Change builds software infrastructure that helps game studios model, simulate and maintain complex systems in modern games—such as vehicles, weapons, progression and economies—using simulation technology combined with AI-assisted authoring. The company’s platform aims to accelerate development and reduce bespoke engineering time by enabling studios to build deeper gameplay systems more efficiently. Breaking Change was founded by a team with backgrounds in games, simulation, robotics and AI, led by co-founder and CEO Dr Jonathan Quinn and co-founder/CTO Ben Laws, and includes senior engineers James Munro and Ivo Hinov. The business has received prior grant and programme support from Media Cymru, Innovate UK and the UK Games Fund, and founder backing from the Royal Academy of Engineering. With the new funding package, Breaking Change intends to expand headcount, progress its simulation and AI R&D, and begin piloting its technology with game studios in 2026 as it prepares for wider commercial adoption. The company is advancing toward market launch while leveraging both public grant support and institutional equity investment to fund growth.
