  Rob Surgical develops the Bitrack System, a robotic platform for minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery intended as an alternative to the Da Vinci robot. The company positions Bitrack as an efficiency improvement over current options and has already achieved technical validation in experimental models. Surgeons from the Mayo Clinic and Barcelona university hospitals Clinic, Vall d’Hebron and Germans Trias have used the system in validation work. Founded in 2012 as a spin-off of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), Rob Surgical is led by CEO Jaume Amat alongside Dr Alícia Casals and Dr Manel Frigola. The company plans to build three new units between 2019 and 2021 to finalise validation and industrialisation, expand its corporate and engineering team, and conduct final safety and functionality trials. It closed a €5m funding round which it intends to use to obtain CE marking for the Bitrack System.

  HEMAV is a Barcelona-based company that provides AI-driven agricultural solutions through its SaaS platform, LAYERS. LAYERS processes billions of data points to deliver precision insights, highly accurate yield predictions, advanced irrigation models, and blockchain-backed traceability, and the company says it can reduce input costs by up to 30%. In 2024 HEMAV expanded operations to 24 countries and digitised 9.2 million hectares of farmland. The company recently launched the CROP MASTERS initiative to offer tailored consultancy and training guided by local experts. As part of its corporate changes, HEMAV restructured its shareholder base, buying out 61 small shareholders. HEMAV plans to use the new funding to enhance LAYERS, scale its predictive capabilities in 2025, and expand its global reach to support sustainable agriculture and food-security goals. Hemav is a leading Spanish operator of drone services, focused on precision agriculture, industrial inspection and geomatics. The company was founded in 2012 by aerospace engineers from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and is based in the ESA Barcelona incubator with operations across Spain. Hemav serves major clients including Gas Natural, Telefónica and IBM and has positioned itself as a national reference in drone technology. With a validated domestic business model, the company is pursuing rapid, scalable international expansion. The firm plans to implement an agenda of UAV technological innovation and to build Layers, a digital platform that will deliver Reporting as a Service (RAAS) from aerial data (drone, plane or satellite). Hemav closed a financing round to provide liquidity for these projects and its expansion plans. Hemav provides drone (UAV) services for civil applications, with particular emphasis on agricultural and infrastructure use cases. The company is presented in the article as a reference in the Spanish drone services sector. Hemav was created in Barcelona and is noted as the first company endorsed by the European Space Agency to join the ESA incubator in Spain. Financially, Hemav completed an equity crowdfunding round that raised €450,000 in six days. The funds were contributed by 67 private investors, who acquired 20% of the company's capital; the minimum ticket was €1,000 and the average investment was around €6,000.
