Koinos Group develops Koinos, a free-to-use general-purpose blockchain that lets developers create decentralized applications using any programming language. The platform aims to lower barriers to entry and allow high-performance applications with user experiences comparable to Web2. Koinos launched its thoroughly decentralized mainnet on November 5 without an initial coin offering, pre-mine, or early insider distributions. Its Mana system—described as a property of the KOIN token rather than a token itself—enables free network usage and can be delegated so users without tokens can transact and run smart contracts for free. Founded in 2020 and led by CEO Andrew Levine, the company raised $500K in Seed funding led by Blockchain Founders Fund with participation from Splinterlands. The round will enable development of Koinos Pro, a subscription product intended to help developers build and scale decentralized applications with no barriers to entry.
