Heptares leverages a structure-based drug design technology platform to develop novel drug candidates that target GPCRs. The company, led by CEO Malcolm Weir and based in Welwyn Garden City, has built a pipeline aimed at treating Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, migraine and diabetes. It recently raised over $21M in a Series B financing to support its clinical programs. Heptares intends to use the funds to advance its clinical pipeline and is preparing to initiate clinical development later this year for its most advanced programme, a selective M1 muscarinic receptor agonist. Pharmaceutical partners include Shire, AstraZeneca, MedImmune, Morphosys, Takeda and Cubist.
