Textile is an app development platform built on IPFS that provides developers with a decentralized database, real-time synchronization, communications, remote backup and recovery, identity tools, and key management via APIs and SDKs. Led by CEO Andrew Hill, the company originated from an early IPFS-based photo-sharing app called Textile Photos and now offers a freely available suite of developer tools, including the decentralized database Threads. Those tools are already being leveraged by companies to build iOS, Android, and browser applications. Textile plans to use new funding to launch interoperable data connectors that let multiple user-controlled applications build and augment shared datasets, accelerate development of core services for user data storage, identity, authentication, and real-time data synchronization, and support integration into third-party applications through grants and engineering assistance. The company is based in San Francisco, CA. It raised $1.5M in seed funding to accelerate those initiatives.
