Graphic India (parent company Liquid Comics) develops original comic and animation IP and brings those properties to audiences through film, television and streaming deals. The 30-person company has produced series such as Astra Force (which premiered on the Disney Channel) and Baahubali: The Lost Legends (aired on Amazon Prime and set to show on Colors), and its 18 Days: The Mahabharata amassed about seven million views across YouTube, Facebook and web video. It sells comics via Amazon and other channels, operates two library-based comic apps and has a comic-and-animation deal tied to the Baahubali film series. The company plans to push its own subscription-based digital comic app while pursuing more film, TV and web streaming partnerships. Graphic India is also exploring expansion into games, merchandising and longer-term AR/VR opportunities, with near-term experiments on affordable devices like Google Cardboard and interest in higher-end VR experiences such as VR arcades. Graphic India develops and distributes a catalog of comics, cartoons and films that spotlight Indian stories and culture. The company is owned by U.S. holding Liquid Comics and was founded in 2013; Sharad Devarajan is CEO and co-founder. Graphic India has built third-party distribution relationships (including Rovio and Cartoon Network), 10 film licensing deals, and sales via Amazon and Flipkart, and maintains an active YouTube presence. Its content roster includes collaborations or input from creators such as Stan Lee and Grant Morrison. The company plans an Android-first mobile platform with immersive apps, e-book and video components, plus a dedicated Facebook app to build a direct audience. Management says the recent funding will be used to create content and develop the digital platform while the startup focuses on audience growth rather than immediate profitability. Graphic India is a comic book and animation company focused on mythological and superhero characters and stories for India’s youth, published across mobile and online platforms. Launched last year by Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman as a subsidiary of Liquid Comics, the company has access to Liquid Comics’ large library of Indian-character comic books. Graphic India plans to produce animated shorts, digital comics and associated media content and to distribute its growing library via its own digital platform and distribution partners in India and worldwide. It has partnered with POW! Entertainment and Stan Lee to create Chakra The Invincible, and is producing properties such as Devi, The Sadhu and Ramayan 3392AD with theatrical development underway for some titles. CA Media (The Chernin Group’s Asian investment arm) has invested in and will partner with Graphic India to provide industry expertise and build franchises across multiple media. Sharad Devarajan was appointed CEO of Graphic India and will remain Executive Chairman of Liquid Comics.
