  Ubiquigent develops biology and chemistry platforms to design and develop novel compounds targeted at ubiquitin system proteins and to evaluate partners' compounds. Ubiquigent is located adjacent to the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit at the University of Dundee and leverages that scientific expertise. The business emphasises commercialisation of its drug-discovery platforms and aims to accelerate development of those capabilities. Financially, the company announced a £0.5 million funding injection to support platform development and commercialisation. Its scientific advisory board is chaired by Professor Sir Philip Cohen and includes Professors Dario Alessi and Ron Hay. Ubiquigent Ltd is a newly formed biotechnology company based in Dundee, Scotland. It will produce biological products and services generated by the Scottish Institute for Cell Signalling (SCILLS) at the University of Dundee. The company’s work centers on protein ubiquitylation, an emerging area of cell signalling with potential for drug development. Stemgent will invest approximately $4.5m (about £3m) in the venture over the next three years. Stemgent will handle initial marketing of Ubiquigent products in the U.S., with arrangements for Europe and other regions to be announced. The products are intended to support development of therapeutics for cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
