Scrona is a spin-off from ETH Zurich (founded 2014) that developed a multi-nozzle 3D printing platform using an electrostatic ejection principle and MEMS-based printheads. Its proprietary technology enables sub-micrometer printing and supports a range of ink materials including metals, dielectrics, organics, and biomaterials. The company highlights high nozzle density and customizable printheads to address multiple industry verticals. Scrona has introduced a GEN3 printhead platform aimed at mass manufacturing, launching with a digital 8-nozzle version and a 128-nozzle version planned later this year. The GEN3 platform is positioned to accelerate product development in a cost-effective and more environmentally friendly way. Management says the technology can reduce manufacturing steps up to tenfold while significantly cutting material, energy, and water usage. Scrona builds a tiny, high-resolution printing system based on electrostatic ejection that it says can print a variety of materials from metals to biomaterials with up to 100x resolution versus traditional 3D printing. The company is positioning the technology to scale additive manufacturing into mass production, targeting electronics applications such as displays, PCBs and semiconductors. Scrona claims its process can reduce manufacturing steps tenfold while significantly cutting material, energy and water usage. The firm traces public attention back to a 2015 Guinness World Record and a Kickstarter campaign, and today emphasizes industrial use cases. Scrona’s CEO Patrick Galliker framed the funding as validation from a syndicate of investors who understand the disruptive potential of the scalable printing technology. Scrona began as an ETH spin-off known for its µPeek credit-card sized smartphone microscope and is now developing NanoDrip, a 3D printing technology for nanoscale production. The company’s printer uses ten thousands of simultaneously operated nozzles to achieve up to 1,000-fold higher resolution than current inkjet printers while maintaining throughput. Scrona claims the approach enables fast, cost-effective production at the nanoscale and targets applications across security printing, printed electronics, flexible displays and diagnostics. The startup holds the world record for the smallest printed inkjet image and emphasizes industrial-scale precision and speed. Scrona has attracted partnerships with world-leading industry players in security printing plus six additional major companies. With the new funding, the team plans to accelerate technology development and push toward industrial adoption.
