PromiseUP is an iOS app that combines social features and gamification to make promises trackable and to encourage users to keep them. Users receive 1,000 UP dollars on signup and wager that virtual currency on promises to others or to themselves, winning or losing UP dollars based on fulfillment. UP dollars can be traded for real prizes in the app’s UP-Shop, and users can purchase additional UP dollars with real money, forming the basis of the company’s business model. In beta the app was used for a range of commitments from daily phone calls and exercise goals to frivolous dares, positioning PromiseUP alongside goal‑tracking and challenge apps. The company publicly launched its iOS app and showcased its founder Ivan Kochetov pitching at TechCrunch Moscow. Kochetov also publicly pledged to raise an additional $5 million by April 20, 2013 during that pitch.
