Retickr is a Mac OS X news reader that combines RSS, social-network updates and crawled news to create a personalized reading experience. The app uses an algorithmic, API-driven approach that learns what users read, like, dislike and share to tailor content. Version 2.0 (released on the Mac App Store) added syncing with Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader, OPML/import support, and the ability to build “playlists” from feeds. The service crawls news from over 85,000 sites and presents content via a configurable ticker UI. Retickr plans to expand beyond the desktop app to web and mobile platforms. The company recently raised funding, giving it capital to address product issues such as slow imports for large Google Reader subscriptions.
