Jigsaw overlays a 16-piece digital jigsaw on users' profile photos, removing pieces as matches and messages are exchanged so faces fully reveal after seven messages. Photos start with one piece removed, digital filters are banned, and the company holds a patent on its anti-superficial mechanic. Founded in 2016 by Alex Durrant and Max Adamski, Jigsaw launched in London in 2019 and opened to the U.S. in November last year. It reports more than 150,000 registered users across the U.K. and U.S., including about 50,000 in the U.S., and aims to hit 500,000 U.S. users in the next six months. The product is designed to drive more sustained interactions (the app targets over six messages each/12 total) and the team says the reveal timing has been user-tested. Jigsaw plans to use the new funding to accelerate U.S. expansion and build additional features the team is not yet publicly disclosing.
