Rivanna Medical is a Charlottesville, VA company focused on elevating standards of care through imaging-based medical solutions. Its flagship effort, Accuro XV, integrates ultrasound-based bone and 3D soft-tissue imaging with AI-enabled software to rapidly detect skeletal fractures and soft-tissue injuries without radiation exposure or extensive operator training. The platform builds on the firm’s proprietary technologies, including BoneVision Multi-Probe Multi-Angle Image Acquisition, BoneEnhance Multi-Frequency Image Reconstruction, and SpineNav3D AI-Enabled Spine Recognition. Current development priorities include completing advanced product work and submitting Accuro XV for FDA 510(k) clearance, followed by AI-enabled CADe/x fracture detection capabilities. Clinical objectives aim to expedite triage of low-acuity extremity injuries, particularly in mass-casualty scenarios, while reducing unnecessary radiography. Rivanna received an $11.6 million base BARDA contract in 2021 and has now secured a larger follow-on award to advance the product toward commercialization.

ReAlta’s lead candidate, pegtarazimod (RLS-0071), is a 15-amino-acid peptide designed to inhibit complement activation at C1 and to reduce myeloperoxidase activity and neutrophil extracellular trap formation. Pegtarazimod was derived from a mechanistic discovery of human astrovirus HAstV-1 and has shown a favorable tolerability profile across multiple clinical studies in healthy volunteers and patients with life-threatening inflammatory conditions. The company is developing pegtarazimod as a potential first-in-class therapy for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE) and has received FDA Orphan Drug and Fast Track designations as well as EMA Orphan Drug designation for HIE. The STAR trial (NCT05778188) is a two-stage, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 study currently enrolling newborns with moderate or severe HIE at 13 U.S. NICUs undergoing therapeutic hypothermia. ReAlta has positioned the program to deliver key clinical readouts and regulatory interactions following the recent financing. The company has raised more than $150 million to date and is headquartered in Norfolk, Va.
