Creative Market is a San Francisco–based online marketplace offering ready-to-use design assets such as fonts, graphics and photos from independent creators worldwide. Launched in 2012 by Aaron Epstein (CEO) and Chris Williams, the platform connects creators and buyers of digital design assets. It hosts more than 22,000 independent creators selling 1.5 million pre-made digital assets to a community of 3.5 million members. The company closed a $7M Series A led by Accomplice with participation from Palm Drive Capital and angels Patrick Lor, Don Parker and Gabriel Hammond. The financing completed Creative Market’s spin out from Autodesk, which will retain a minority stake in the newly formed company. Creative Market will use the funding to invest in marketplace growth, hire to expand the team and launch new products. Creative Market is a marketplace and platform for designers to buy and sell digital design assets — everything from icons and brushes to fonts, templates and colors. Launched in private beta by the ColourLovers founders, the product leverages ColourLovers' community and inventory and has attracted a 75K waiting list and about 100K weekly downloads of free assets. ColourLovers itself has grown to roughly 2 million registered users and houses large creative assets (over 5M colors, 2M palettes, 2M patterns and 160K templates) while generating roughly $500K in annual revenue. The team acquired Forrst to expand inventory and plans to position Creative Market as an 'Etsy for digital design content.' The company intends to offer designers at least twice the typical 30% revenue share and is working to launch an API to let other sites add buy buttons. Creative Market expects a full public unveiling later this summer after its beta launch.
