- Molo Finance
Led · Seed · Jun 2018
Molo Finance is a digitally native mortgage lender that uses technology to deliver simpler, faster online residential and buy-to-let lending. Since launching in 2018 it has positioned itself as Europe’s only digitally native mortgage lender and has led change in the UK mortgage market by delivering online buy-to-let loans with speed and efficiency. Molo is FCA regulated and provides both residential and buy-to-let mortgages. The company suspended its products in April 2022 due to capital markets volatility and the impact on some of its former funders. Through a new strategic partnership ColCap Financial has made a strategic investment and will support expanding Molo’s access to mortgage funding to restart and accelerate growth into the buy-to-let market. Molo plans to relaunch soon with a new, innovative range of buy-to-let products. MoloFinance has built a fully digital mortgage journey that automates most decisions and sources most information digitally to deliver near-instant decisions and a frictionless customer experience. The company is initially targeting Buy to Let mortgages while it works through regulatory approval with the FCA. Once FCA approval is secured MoloFinance plans to begin offering residential mortgages as well. Its product includes a transparent "robo-advisor" intended to prioritise customers' interests and reduce unnecessary costs compared with traditional, paper-based processes. The startup says it will generate revenue by taking a small share of the interest paid on mortgages, leaving the majority for funding partners, and will not charge customers broker or arrangement fees. MoloFinance closed £3.7 million in seed funding to support launching its first product release later this summer.
