  • Portfolium

    Participated · Series A · Sep 2016

Portfolium is a San Diego startup founded in 2014 that builds a student talent showcase where students upload work samples to prove their skills. The platform accepts artifacts such as writing assignments, videos, apps, and 3‑D models rather than relying on traditional resumes. Portfolium parses submissions to guard against plagiarism and integrates with university systems so faculty can assign and assess work through the site. It has partnered with about 200 universities and colleges and reports 3.75 million students under contract, plus roughly 60,000 employer partners including Oracle, SpaceX, Nike, Intel, Hulu, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Disney, and Cisco. CEO Adam Markowitz says the goal is to address underemployment by building the 'largest student talent showcase.' The company plans to use new funding for hiring and product development, including a service to let employers connect with early‑college students to suggest coursework or offer virtual internships. Portfolium is a cloud-based skills marketplace for students and employers, led by founder and CEO Adam Markowitz. Its core product is an ePortfolio network that enables students to create instant portfolios showcasing class projects and work samples aligned to professional, on-the-job requirements. Students from over 2,000 schools, including Cal Poly and UC San Diego, are using the platform. The company is headquartered at the EvoNexus high-tech accelerator in San Diego. Portfolium closed $1.2M in venture capital funding and has raised a total of $2.1M to date. It intends to use the new funds to scale its ePortfolio network. Portfolium is an academic portfolio platform that enables students, alumni and their institutions to showcase projects, skills and experiences via media-rich portfolios. The cloud-based service aggregates multimedia content from across the web and combines features of social and professional networking platforms. Led by CEO Adam Markowitz, Portfolium provides tools for creating and visually presenting project-based work. The company is based in San Diego and operates out of the EvoNexus incubator. Portfolium raised $900K in seed funding from investors including Tech Coast Angels and Taner Halicioglu of Keshif Ventures. It has signed a contract with the University of California to deploy the platform campus-wide.
