C. Light develops neurotech and AI that uses retinal eye-tracking to map neurodegeneration and assess therapeutic efficacy. Its non-invasive technology measures fixational eye motion at the cellular scale (as small as 1/100th the size of a human hair). The company plans to study retinal eye motion biomarkers to flag diagnosis, prognosis and monitoring of Alzheimer’s disease in tandem with new drug therapies. A new investment will fund a pilot study with the UCSF Memory and Aging Center to examine changes in fixational eye motion during mild cognitive impairment. C. Light is led by co-founder Dr. Christy K. Sheehy and is based in Boston, MA. Financially, the company completed a second and final seed round of $500k (which included ADDF) and reports total seed funding of more than $3m; the most recent funding amount was undisclosed. C. Light Technologies develops a retinal eye-tracking device that assesses neurological health using a 10-second scan. Its device can image the retina down to the cellular level and track eye movements as small as one micron, measuring microsaccades that may predict neurodegenerative disease progression. The company intends to use the recent funding to hire a design and manufacturing firm to convert a working prototype into a finalized commercial product and to pursue 510(k) FDA clearance. It plans to fundamentally reshape monitoring and treatment options for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS and concussion recovery. C. Light closed a $2.5M seed round led by Creative Ventures, bringing total funding to more than $3.25M. Led by Co‑Founder and CEO Dr. Christy K. Sheehy, the company will relocate its corporate offices to Boston in February.
