Velan Studios focuses on creating ground‑breaking experimental game experiences across existing and emerging platforms. Founded by Karthik and Guha Bala in November 2016, the team includes veterans who worked on Guitar Hero, Skylanders, Rock Band, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Metroid Prime, and Horizon: Zero Dawn. The studio plans R&D in AI‑enabled augmented reality, robotics, and novel hardware‑software integration, and intends to develop new play patterns on current platforms. Velan will use capital to build out veteran prototyping teams, hire industry veterans and recent graduates, and expand its downtown Troy studio. Financially, the company completed a $7 million Series A financing to support these initiatives. Charles Huang joined the board as part of the round to lend expertise in integrated hardware‑software game concepts.
