AmplifyBio is an advanced therapy contract research organization (CRO) and contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) that provides end-to-end drug development and manufacturing services. Its 350,000-square-foot Manufacturing Enablement Center (AMEC) in New Albany, Ohio houses multi-modality process development, quality control labs, and GMP manufacturing suites. The AMEC is located in Central Ohio’s advanced manufacturing corridor adjacent to Intel’s Ohio One semiconductor facility and Amgen’s biomanufacturing plant. AmplifyBio is executing a strategy to enable flexible advanced therapy manufacturing and ancillary services and has entered a partnership with Vitrian to support those plans. Vitrian closed a $50 million investment, with the ability to scale to $65 million, into the AMEC as a first step of a larger commitment to biomanufacturing in Central Ohio. Company leadership characterized the Vitrian partnership as aligned with its strategic goals and expressed hope it will lead to further collaboration. AmplifyBio is a preclinical contract research organization focused on toxicology, safety, and pharmacology testing for advanced therapies. The company spun out of Battelle in May 2021 and has expanded rapidly, hiring over 150 employees and building a state-of-the-art analytics laboratory on its West Jefferson, Ohio campus. It acquired a second site in South San Francisco dedicated to characterization of advanced therapies and plans to open a new location in New Albany, Ohio to add technologies and partnerships. AmplifyBio emphasizes robust drug characterization using genetic and phenotypic assays to support preclinical safety assessments and next-generation therapeutic development. Management says it will use newly obtained funding to accelerate platform development and growth of sites, technology, and service offerings over the next 18–24 months. The company positions itself as commercially focused and investing in technology, expertise, and infrastructure to provide GLP and non‑GLP study design and execution.
