Roots Homes provides a fractional homeownership service that allows renters to purchase shares in their home each month. The company gives customers a shopping budget to find a home and will buy the home so the customer can move in. Equity a renter builds can be held long-term, applied toward a downpayment, or cashed out if they choose to move out. Roots says it will buy "most homes" in Las Vegas for customers and allows them to "test drive" a home before committing. Terms are 12 months and can be renewed year after year until a customer decides to move out or purchase the home from Roots. The company launched a beta late last year and plans to use new funding to accelerate growth of its Las Vegas operations; Lauren Self is founder and CEO.
