Personalis provides advanced genome-scale sequencing and interpretation services for inherited genetic disease and cancer through a CLIA-licensed, CAP-accredited clinical laboratory. The company reports strong demand from pharmaceutical customers for its cancer genomics offerings and continued growth in its Mendelian genetic testing business. Management says customers are becoming more sophisticated about the limitations of off-the-shelf next-generation sequencing and analysis tools and increasingly value Personalis’ clinical interpretation. Personalis has received orders from eleven different countries, including five in Asia, and reports strong repeat orders from domestic and international customers. The company completed a $33 million Series C to ramp the scale of its operations and drive rapid expansion. Leadership intends to use the new capital to scale operations in response to broadening customer demand. Personalis provides advanced medical exome and genome sequencing and interpretation services, including whole-genome and exome sequencing augmented by its ACE (Accuracy and Content Enhanced) Technology. Since its first customer purchase order 13 months ago the company has received more than $14M in customer orders and has sequenced and analyzed over 7,000 human samples, with well over two thirds ordered with ACE. It has delivered data and analysis for rare Mendelian diseases and cancer to pharmaceutical, integrated healthcare, academic and government research customers. Personalis achieved CLIA validation for its laboratory in January 2013, is building sequencing and computational infrastructure to handle projects of over 10,000 samples, and has direct sales representatives and field support in North America plus a UK subsidiary and initial European sales team. The company plans to use new funding to further build its technological lead, expand product offerings, scale operations, and grow its commercial team, including in Asia. Financially, Personalis closed a $22M Series B bringing total investment in the company to over $42M.
