Codeanywhere (formerly PHPanywhere) is a cloud-based code editor that lets developers write colorized, syntax-checked code and collaborate in real time from virtually any browser or device, with automatic cloud backups. The platform supports most popular web programming languages and runs on iOS, Android, Windows 8 and BlackBerry. It offers free and premium plans; the premium plan is currently priced at $5 per month and a premium team version is planned. The company reports 150,000 users and says it can build more capital-efficiently than some San Francisco-based competitors. Management has expressed the aim to ‘become the industry-standard in cloud development.’ New funding will be used to focus on scalability, user acquisition and development of new features.
