GetMyBoat is the world’s largest boat rental and water-experience marketplace, offering over 150,000 boats and water experiences across 9,300 destinations. Since 2019 the company has exceeded 10x net revenue growth despite the global pandemic and is on track to send 2 million people boating before the end of 2022. Yanmar has acquired a majority stake and injected $21 million in growth capital as part of a Series B round to support expansion. GetMyBoat will continue to operate as a stand-alone entity run by its current executive team. The company plans to use the funding to expand the team and accelerate international growth as travel markets reopen. Yanmar, based in Osaka, has worked with GetMyBoat since an initial investment in March 2018 and expects the acquisition and capital to help drive its digital transformation and monitor trends in recreational marine. GetMyBoat operates an online marketplace for boat and watercraft rentals and other water experiences. Launched in 2013 and led by CEO Sascha Mornell, the platform lists over 108,000 listings across 184 countries and more than 9,300 locations. The company secured up to $10M in funding in a round led by Yanmar that included a strategic partnership with Yanmar Marine International. As part of that partnership, Shiori Nagata, President of Yanmar Marine International, will join GetMyBoat’s board. GetMyBoat plans to use the funds to strengthen its U.S. leadership, accelerate growth in Europe and Asia, and expand its platform and product. Yanmar is described as a privately held, multibillion-dollar multinational headquartered in Osaka, Japan. GetMyBoat operates an online peer-to-peer marketplace for watercraft rentals, serving renters and owners of every type of boat from kayaks to catamarans across locations including California and Croatia. The site offers free listings with photos, video, boat specs, pricing and scheduling, chat functionality, an online calendar, and both private and charter listings with no fees, commissions or monthly dues. Signing up, listing watercraft, and completing reservations are free of charge. Led by CEO and co-founder Sascha Mornell, CTO and co-founder Rafael Collado, and Head of Product Bryan Petro, the company officially launched on March 5 and recently added 400 boats to a prior base of 2,000. GetMyBoat plans to use new capital to boost marketing, add personnel, and advance its product. The company raised $500K in angel funding, with the names of the backers undisclosed.
