  ROMO Wind is a product-led technology and service company that develops patented wind measurement technology and rotor-adjustment solutions to optimize wind farm performance. The company’s iSpin measurement products accurately measure wind speed and direction at the turbine, enabling performance assessment, correction and control. ROMO has signed contracts with large utility wind-farm owners jointly owning approximately 18 GW of installed capacity. Founded in Switzerland in 2011, the company is headquartered in Zug and maintains offices in Aarhus, Ostenfeld and Madrid. Management says the financing is an endorsement of the technology, team and business model and will help ROMO penetrate the global market for wind-farm optimization. The company reported closing a new financing round that strengthens its financial position amid difficult financing conditions for new companies.

  Topell Energy B.V. develops proprietary torrefaction technology that transforms diverse, low‑grade biomass into a homogenous, densified biofuel suitable for combustion and gasification. The company’s scalable process is designed to enable large‑scale production of densified biofuel, reducing transport and storage costs and improving conversion efficiency to heat and power. Topell has built its first commercial‑scale plant in Duiven and operates a commercial‑scale demonstration plant in the Netherlands. The company intends to sell its torrefaction technology solutions and additional plants to biomass supply‑chain companies worldwide and will use the new financing to ramp up production at its demonstration plant. Topell recently strengthened its intellectual property position and secured manufacturing rights and a partnership with the Torftech Group to build and improve TORBED® reactors for torrefaction applications. Jules Kortenhorst was appointed CEO earlier this year.

• Triogen

  Tri-O-Gen Group produces Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) units that convert low-value heat, which would otherwise be wasted or cooled to ambient air, into electricity. The company has developed reference sites in the Netherlands, France and Portugal. It is in the process of creating a network of sales partners in other European countries to expand distribution. Tri-O-Gen completed a €4.5m financing round to support its growth. The round was completed by Yellow& Blue Investment Management and included a substantial investment from the company’s management and founders. The funds will be used for the continued deployment of its ORC units in the Netherlands and across Europe. The company is based in Goor, The Netherlands.

• Cuculus

  Cuculus GmbH, founded in 2007 and based in Ilmenau, Germany, provides smart-metering and in-home device management (Home Control) solutions to utilities and internet service providers. Its core product connects electric, gas and water meters to a robust IT platform that can be integrated with utilities' existing back-end systems. The company has also developed the infrastructure to support management of home appliances for utilities and ISPs. Cuculus is managing projects for a number of German utilities and maintains a strong network of solution partners, developers and device manufacturers across Europe. It completed a €2.6m venture capital financing to fund continued deployment of its smart technologies in the utility and telecom markets. Management says the funding will accelerate roll-out plans in Germany and strengthen its position as a technology provider to utilities and ISPs.
