ActLight
EPFL Innovation Park Building I, Lausanne, Vaud, 1015, Switzerland
Overview
ActLight is an EPFL-based startup that develops and licenses light sensor technology for applications such as range meters and 3D cameras. Its sensors deliver comparable performance while using up to ten times less energy, occupying less space and offering better pricing than existing solutions. The company has developed a low-energy heart-rate sensing sensor for wearable devices in cooperation with US firm On Semiconductor. That sensor can measure a heartbeat using merely one-fifth of the energy required by existing solutions; the article notes that nearly 80% of smartwatch battery power is consumed by heart-rate monitoring. ActLight licenses its technology to device makers and targets energy-efficient sensing applications. The company recently closed a Series B with participation from strategic investors and business angels.
