Overview
Agora develops cloud communication APIs whose core product is an SDK that enables developers to add voice, video, group calling and interactive broadcasting features into apps. It has recently added SDKs targeted at game developers and Facebook's React Native framework. After closing a $70 million Series C, the company plans to create products for new markets and verticals. Existing backers SIG, Morningside Capital and Shunwei Capital returned for the round, which brings Agora's total funding to $125 million. Agora says its SDKs have surpassed two billion installations and that its 200 distributed data centers route an average of 10 billion minutes of live communications each month. Founded in 2014 by CEO Tony Zhao, the company is headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., with offices in Shanghai and competes with firms such as Twilio and Tokbox. Agora provides communications-as-a-service (CaaS) delivering voice and video communications across devices and networks globally via an SDK. The SDK enables software applications to support as many as 2,000 users on a single call. Its customers include organizations in financial services, education, telemedicine, human resources, customer service, and social media. The company announced global availability of Agora Voice, aiming to provide higher quality of experience than current WebRTC services at global scale. Founded in 2014 and based in Palo Alto, Agora said it will use new capital to expand its global infrastructure and sales and marketing initiatives. As of the Series B, the company has raised $25.9M in total funding.
