Overview
april is an embedded, year-round, AI-powered tax platform that provides white-labeled tax filing and planning tools to financial institutions. Its API-first infrastructure ingests partner data to pre-fill federal and state forms into a single flow, reducing median time to file to 22 minutes and delivering a Net Promoter Score above 60. During the 2024 tax season april was available to millions of Americans through more than 50 partners and processed hundreds of thousands of returns; partners saw refund deposit rates over 98%. The company has launched self-service, pro-assisted, and pro-led filing options and tools for paycheck withholding optimization and quarterly payments, and is developing solutions for capital gains, retirement planning, and small business scenarios. Year to date the business has tripled in size, and april became the first new company in over 15 years to achieve national e-file coverage in early 2025. With $78 million in total funding and an AI tax engine built to handle complex situations, april aims to embed tax intelligence across major financial platforms so users can forecast, optimize, and file taxes inside the apps they already use. April builds an AI and machine-learning-powered tax engine that parses tax code and financial documents to personalize and autofill tax filings. Users connect payroll, bank statements, mortgage data, prior-year returns and other finance apps; April analyzes significant tax events and generates filing documents. The company offers an SDK so developers and fintech partners can embed its capabilities into apps and websites and partners with banks and firms such as Propel. Since its launch earlier this year, April says it has helped several thousand taxpayers file taxes in an average of 15 minutes, enabled access to millions in refunds, and has commitments of tens of thousands of filings for next year. April currently has about 30 employees and plans to grow to roughly 50 by year end. The company plans to invest new capital in R&D and increase operational capacity ahead of the next tax season.
