Aquabyte builds underwater camera systems and machine‑learning models that transform images and signals into real-time metrics such as lice counts, individual weights, growth, and other welfare indicators. Its product allows farms to monitor fish without handling them and take immediate actions to reduce treatments and waste. Aquabyte builds machine learning models and deploys underwater 3D cameras to augment the visual IQ of human-operated fish-farming systems. Installed in fish farm pens, the cameras allow the technology to measure fish size and biomass to determine optimal feed quantities. The company is developing additional applications such as automated sea-lice counting, a problem that accounts for about $1 billion in damages in Norway. Aquabyte has established pilots at local research institutions and farms around Norway through assistance from NCE Seafood Innovation. The team operates from San Francisco and Bergen, Norway, and is led by founder and CEO Bryton Shang. Aquabyte raised $3.5M in seed funding to advance its technology and pilots.
