  • Aquabyte

    Participated · Series B · Jul 2022

Aquabyte builds underwater camera systems and machine‑learning models that transform images and signals into real-time metrics such as lice counts, individual weights, growth, and other welfare indicators. Its product allows farms to monitor fish without handling them and take immediate actions to reduce treatments and waste. The company has deployed hundreds of systems monitoring salmon and trout and has processed over 300 million unique fish images. Aquabyte was first to receive approval by dispensation for automatic sea lice counting from the Norwegian Food Safety Authorities. The team draws on fish‑welfare biologists, computer vision/AI specialists, and engineers to deliver actionable insights to farms. With offices in San Francisco, New York, Chile, and Norway, Aquabyte plans to scale to more species and more countries. Aquabyte develops underwater stereoscopic camera systems and machine learning algorithms to measure fish health, size, and optimal feed quantities for aquaculture farms. Its products aim to reduce operational costs, decrease fish mortality, and minimize environmental impact. The company has launched general availability in Norway and is working with Norwegian salmon and trout farms. Aquabyte reports having processed more than a petabyte of fish images and scanned over 2.5 million fish; its algorithms estimate group fish weight within 0.8% of true weight 95% of the time. The company has also detected more than 100,000 sea lice and plans to expand its product line to estimate fish appetite and quality, predict sea lice outbreaks, and automate feeding. Leadership includes founder and CEO Bryton Shang and the recently added independent board member Chandran Sankaran. Aquabyte builds machine learning models and deploys underwater 3D cameras to augment the visual IQ of human-operated fish-farming systems. Installed in fish farm pens, the cameras allow the technology to measure fish size and biomass to determine optimal feed quantities. The company is developing additional applications such as automated sea-lice counting, a problem that accounts for about $1 billion in damages in Norway. Aquabyte has established pilots at local research institutions and farms around Norway through assistance from NCE Seafood Innovation. The team operates from San Francisco and Bergen, Norway, and is led by founder and CEO Bryton Shang. Aquabyte raised $3.5M in seed funding to advance its technology and pilots.

  • Elvie

    Participated · Series C · Jul 2021

Elvie develops consumer-focused women’s health products designed to replace outdated medical devices with sleek, home-friendly alternatives. Its product lineup includes the Elvie Trainer app-connected Kegel trainer, the Elvie Pump silent wearable breast pump, and breastfeeding accessories Elvie Catch and Elvie Curve. The company was founded in 2013 by Tania Boler and is headquartered in London. Elvie aims to revolutionise categories such as breast pumps and pelvic-floor health by combining engineering, design, and consumer UX. Financially, Elvie has completed multiple fundraises, bringing total funding to $136 million to date from backers that include BlackRock, Octopus Ventures, and the Business Growth Fund. The most recent capital is intended to enhance women’s well-being and support the company’s product and category expansion. Elvie is a British femtech company that designs consumer health products for women, including the Elvie Pump and app-connected Elvie Trainer. The company has four products on market—Elvie Trainer, Elvie Pump, Elvie Catch and Elvie Curve—and has commercialized two breakthrough, patented and FDA-approved devices. Since launching Elvie Pump in 2018 the business experienced rapid growth, growing 6x in 2019, almost doubling in 2020 and on track to double again in 2021, while launching 10 new markets across Europe and Asia and gaining the No.1 position for Elvie Pump in the US and UK. Elvie plans to expand its product portfolio into other key life stages to become a global platform for women’s health. The Series C proceeds will be used to fund product innovation, geographic expansion and to strengthen operations and infrastructure for the next phase of growth. Elvie is a six-year-old, London-based femtech hardware company known for an app-connected Kegel trainer and a silent wearable breast pump. Its Kegel trainer provides five-minute workouts with real-time biofeedback, while the pump monitors milk volume in real time, tracks pumping history per breast and can be operated remotely. The pump launched in September and had a waitlist of thousands of women. Elvie's long-term plan is to develop products supporting women at every stage of life — prenatal, menopausal and otherwise — and to become a one-stop shop for women's health. Financially, the company has raised nearly $50 million to date and announced a $42 million Series B as its third private financing. The new capital will be used for R&D on upcoming products and to build brand awareness and distribution across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia. Launched in 2013, Elvie develops consumer technology focused on women’s health, notably a pelvic floor exercise tracker paired with a mobile app. Its tracker is distributed through major retailers and e-tailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Goop and Violet Grey. The company already operates in 59 countries and generated $1 million in direct sales revenue in 2016. Elvie plans to use new funding to expand into 25 additional countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific. It also intends to launch a second device aimed specifically at new mothers before the end of 2017. The business has previously raised seed funding and received government grants to support development and growth.

  • Nodes & Links

    Participated · Series A · Jun 2021

Nodes & Links is an AI enterprise platform that provides schedule management and project delivery tools across construction, energy, aerospace and defense. The platform automates progress tracking, change control, trend analysis and delay navigation, identifying root causes of delays so teams can address them and prevent recurrence. By automating administrative work such as report generation—where teams typically lose four days every two weeks—the product gives project teams more time to act on insights. Customers like AECOM say the platform unlocks tailored predictive insights, enabling finer plan adjustments and closer monitoring during execution, leading to healthier, more efficient and greener outcomes. Financially, Nodes & Links has raised $12M in a Series B funding round led by ETF Partners. The company plans to use the new capital to expand operations and scale across the US. Nodes & Links builds Aegis, a scheduling platform that determines when and in what order materials and assembly should be delivered for large-scale infrastructure projects. Its software is used by contractors including Balfour Beatty, Costain and BAM Nuttal and the company says Aegis has delivered millions in cost savings by getting materials and assembly organized correctly. The product competes with incumbent infrastructure software such as Oracle Primavera and with manual tools like Excel. The company argues that most major projects run over time and budget — citing an Oxford survey finding only 8% are delivered on time and on budget — and that better scheduling can materially reduce costs and environmental impact. Nodes & Links frames its approach as expanding the workforce to include machines so humans can focus on higher-value creative tasks. The new funding will be used to accelerate adoption of the platform. Nodes & Links is a London-based startup with a software laboratory in Cyprus that applies complexity science to project management. The company develops software designed to help organisations control and manage complex projects, which the article cites as accounting for more than 4% of global GDP. Founded in 2018, Nodes & Links says its software has been deployed to de-risk the maintenance plan for a UK-based nuclear reactor and to improve baseline estimates for a billion-pound infrastructure project. The firm also reports improving upon the industry-standard critical path method by over 2,800% in the aerospace domain. The startup has raised £1.4 million in a funding round led by ADV with participation from Seedcamp and Entrepreneur First.

  • LeaseLock

    Led · Series B · Feb 2021

LeaseLock builds an AI-powered lease insurance product (LeaseLock Zero Deposit™) that eliminates security deposits and deploys directly within native online leasing checkouts. It integrates with property management system integrations and data science to underwrite and deliver coverage, which the company says drives conversion lift and instant coverage on every lease. LeaseLock has insured over $1 billion in leases to date and reported 400% growth in apartment homes on the platform in 2020, reaching more than 1.5 million homes. Key customers include Greystar, Cushman Wakefield, Avenue5 Residential, Harbor Group, LMC, RKW Residential, Goldman Sachs, ColRich, GoldCor, Olive Tree, TruAmerica, White Oak, Trinsic, and Goodman Real Estate. Clients are measuring six-figure NOI lift per asset, which LeaseLock says results in millions in portfolio asset value increases. Management says it will double down on its core deposit replacement product while investing in new insurance lines, payment and receivables technology, and market channels as it expands into an AI-powered financial technology platform for enterprise real estate. LeaseLock is a Los Angeles, CA–based insurance technology product for the rental housing market that replaces security deposits with insurance. Renters pay a low monthly fee starting at $19 that insures the property for up to six times rent and damages. The company has enrolled over 1,000,000 apartment homes across multifamily portfolios, including Lennar Multifamily Communities (LMC), Avenue5 Residential, United Apartment Group, and Bainbridge. Led by founder and CEO Reichen Kuhl, LeaseLock completed a $10M Series A to support growth. The company intends to use the funds to expand sales and marketing efforts and to broaden and accelerate product development. The product targets multifamily operators by offering an alternative to traditional security deposits. LeaseLock offers a technology-powered insurance product for the residential rental market that replaces traditional security deposits by issuing an insurance policy that protects properties for all rent payments. Its underwriting uses a predictive risk algorithm so approved applicants can pay a LeaseLock fee that is translated into an insurance policy. The product is positioned to help renters with poor credit secure leases without cosigners or high deposits while also improving credit scores. Property managers benefit from higher lease conversion, reduced default losses, and improved cash flows, which can increase property values. Since launching earlier in the year, LeaseLock has enrolled property managers representing over 500,000 units with properties launched across 14 states and is approved to offer its rent-payment insurance in 49 other states. The program is backed by insurance rated A- by A.M. Best and supported by a $4 billion multiline reinsurer.
