Artifact Labs
20/F, Times Square, Matheson Street, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, Hong Kong Island
Overview
Artifact Labs mints NFTs to create immutable, on-chain versions of historical artifacts and institutional collections, beginning with SCMP front pages from 1997. The startup spun out of the South China Morning Post last year and focuses on building a decentralized marketplace and tooling for museums and cultural institutions. It can mint across Flow, Ethereum, Polygon and BSC, has received grants from Dapper Labs and Filecoin, and bought the source code of Refinable to accelerate marketplace development. Artifact has struck partnerships with RMS Titanic Inc., G.O.D., and the Hong Kong Philharmonic, is in confidential talks with major museums across Asia, and plans geographic expansion to New York, London and Paris. The company monetizes by charging project fees to institutional and IP partners and plans to explore revenue-sharing on future NFT sales; SCMP remains a large shareholder. Operationally it has around 16 staff mostly based in Hong Kong and a Discord community of roughly 17,000 members; it intends to use its recent seed funding to add technical headcount and further develop its stack and marketplace.
